Dear Rover 75 and MG ZT friends,

Since we don't know anyone in our club who lives there and Detlev grew up nearby, we decided to prepare something. We do all excursions with our own Rovers or MG ZTs through a beautiful landscape (<100 km in total over the 3 days).

Thursday May 09, 2024

Participants arrive at the Hotel Kaiserhof in Kelbra from around 3 p.m.

7:00 p.m. dinner together, followed by the general membership meeting; Open End of the evening.


Friday May 10, 2024 – heavenly

09:00 Departure to the Kyffhäuser monument:

We will receive a guided tour at approximately 9:30 a.m., after which we will have free time. If you feel like it and have the strength, you can of course climb the 247 steps to the tower dome.

If necessary, there is plenty of time to eat and drink something in the bistro “Kaiser-Picknick”.



approx. 1 p.m.: we drive to the panorama museum on the Schlachtberg near Bad Frankenhausen. https://www.panorama-museum.de/en/

After admiring the unique monumental painting (canvas 123x14 meters) with audio guides (also available in English and Dutch), we drive individually back to the hotel (25-30 min. drive).
Along the way you can take a small detour to view the leaning church tower in Bad Frankenhausen. Unfortunately, the tower is not accessible, but it is more leaning than the leaning tower of Pisa!

6:00 p.m. Dinner, then BINGO


Saturday May 11, 2024 – underground

9:30 a.m. Departure to Barbarossa Cave

The tour lasts about an hour (temperature all year round around 9°C), wear sturdy shoes.
Afterwards there is an opportunity for a snack with original Thuringian bratwurst.

1:00 p.m. Departure to the Sondershausen adventure mine.

As part of the tour at 2 p.m., we will go 680 meters deep into the earth and enjoy a ride in a convertible truck.

6:00 p.m. Dinner and Open End.


Sunday May 12, 2024 – unfortunately even the best days pass

10 a.m.: (so sleep a little longer before packing your suitcase) Departure to Königspfalz Tilleda

Tilleda was home to one of the complexes known as the Palatinate, which was used temporarily as a residence for emperors and kings in the early and late Middle Ages (8th to 13th centuries).
As the only fully excavated site of its kind to date, Tilleda is considered a good example of a residence of such a ruler even beyond the borders of Germany.
We are expected at 10:30 am for a one hour tour (travel time from the hotel 10 minutes)

The official program of this meeting ends here. Perhaps not for some of you, because the Harz or also “Golden Aue” in the north of Thuringia are beautiful areas to further explore.
