I am not technical, so please bare with me.
Since it got extremely cold here (-24°C) last week, my MG ZT190 has sometimes started revving like crazy. I first thought that the carpet had got stuck on/between/under the gas pedal, but this is not the case. Last Saturday and today, it was revving up to the red line. Other days it might be 3k - 5k, and every third day (or so), no bad behaviour whatsoever.
The temperature has warmed somewhat (only -8°C) today, but it was red-lining again today. This happened last Friday and I was around the corner from an Audi dealer (there are no MG/Rover dealers in this area), but they had never seen (or heard of) anything like this before.
Most of the time the revving stops after about 10 minutes and goes back to normal. I do notice though, when idling at a stop sign, the idle is not constant. It goes between 600 & 1000 rpm, but smoothly not jerkily. It also only does this after it has misbehaved. It normally idles evenly at about 800.
Could anyone be able to shed some light or ideas as to what the may be? Or is it that my beloved MG now wants to be a Toyota?
